First off, stress can cancel out even your best efforts. There are chemicals in the body that are produced by stress that make it impossible to lose weight. If the chocolate is helping the stress, then don't sweat it. (No pun intended!) I would try to focus on maintaining my weight rather than trying to lose it during times of high stress. Working hard to cancel out those stress chemicals and actually lose weight can add to the stress if the scale doesn't budge.

I totally agree with the three month detox thing. Sometimes I can do it. Other times, not quite. Less now than other times in my life, but it's largely due to managing my stress level.

A couple things I do to keep myself in line . . . I try to stick to a very low calorie intake for the day. Then I have enough left at the end of the night to have that bowl of ice cream and still be within my calorie number. That really works best for me. To not deny myself, but add my indulgences into my meal plan.

Another thing that works for me is to just flat out take a break. It's good for your body. Any change is good when you're doing the same thing everyday. Your body just gets used to it and you plateau. I've got a ton of weight to lose. But after I've lost ten pounds, then I'll take some time off from the diet. I make sure that I don't gain more than one pound throughout my break. And I let my mood and my motivation guide how long my break lasts. But so long as I'm not gaining, then I don't beat myself up. Then when I'm mentally ready to ramp it up again, my body is ready for it and the next ten pounds comes off fairly easily.

I wonder if you are familiar with the book, The Weigh Down Diet, by Gwen Shamblin. It was truly life-changing for me, and forever altered the way I felt about food. I am sure you can find it at the library. It's very God-based. The testimonies in it are amazing - I highly recommend it, and if you want to go further there are usually classes in local churches..

You're doing such a great job! I wish I had the determination you do! You are such an inspiration! Check out my blog for an idea on how to get in a bit of exercise while spending time with the Lord. :)

I think I read on Twitter that you started the Jillian Michaels Shred DVD? How do you like it? I am **finally** beginning my weight loss journey since things are now all settled. I almost picked it up at the store but stopped because I want to read the reviews. An opinion from someone I "know" would be better than someone I don't. Thanks a bunch!

Thanks for your tips. I am battling the weight from having 3 babies back to back to back, and often times I see myself making compromises that I innately know I shouldn't.

Your tip to stay away from a weakness (i.e. chocolate) for an extended amount of time is a good one because I think it's true that one can build up a lot of self control if it isn't consumed as often and that the weakness can even lose it's appeal. I'm going to think about this the next time I go to grab a chocolate chip!

I've lived on the weight loss roller coaster for a few months (ok, a lot longer than a few) but I've gotten focused and have a plan with obtainable goals. I think if you set your goals too far out of reach you are likely to give up very quickly. I've lost almost 15 pounds in 6 weeks. I'm more focused now than every before. I look forward to getting on the scale every Wednesday and seeing the progress that I've made.

I agree with you on the part about chocolate. I will admit that I am a chocoholic and iced coffee addict! However, being focused on my weight loss and getting moving has helped me to avoid these two bad habits. I still have chocolate and iced coffee but not everyday like I was. I eat it in moderation. I've gotten to the point that I don't crave the chocolate anymore...the coffee is a different story but if I eat before I head out and/or stay busy I don't even think about wanting it. I thinking finding something to replace that "want" feeling will help fight the craving. If it doesn't, then I would go ahead and have a bite or taste of something rather than cafe in later.

I'm looking forward to the day that your posts says that you made it to your goal. Keep up the great work!!

When my motivation wanes, I try to change things up. Either add different excercise or change my eating routine a little bit. I also allow myself room in my diet to have small treats every day. If I have 1 small piece of chocolate after lunch it helps me to stay on track, because I know tomorrow I can have another one.

Well I did fall of the wagon! 2009 started off pretty bad in our family and all was going okay until the beginning of Feb and my 2 nieces lived with me for a month. My schedule was absolutely insane and I gained literally about 10lbs in a month and a half! Uggh

It has been 2 weeks since I got back on the band wagon and the first thing I dd was decide to try quitting soda altogether. I was consuming way too many Dr. Pepper calories.

I am happy to say I am down 8lbs already and almost right where I was when I left off. My determination is stronger than ever. I am thanking God for everyday that I don't drink soda. Hopefully I will never drink it again,
