Soul Snack: Vacation Photos…Footprints…Reflection

We did have a wonderful time vacationing on the beach of Bonita Springs. It is waaaay South Florida (or at least for us driving from Ohio), why did we do that again? Oh, that's right because airline tickets are ridiculously expensive and it was more frugal to drive.

I'm sure you saw the pic I shared here of our view from the house – it was absolutely beautiful! Here are some other memories we captured on film – I'll caption them for ya too:

All of my boys from oldest to youngest. They are all so cute and perfect, even the old guy :-) Babe, happy 15th BTW!

During a rainy day, we took the opportunity to visit a musem (if you'll call it that). Caleb takes every opportunity to cheese with me, or anyone for that matter. He is my little namesake even though he adamantly disagrees and always says, “Nope, I look like daddy.” Sorry, baby, you're the only one that looks like me so embrace it!

OK, T never likes to take pics anymore – he's just too old for it I guess. So, I decided to sit on him so he had no choice. Yeah, I'd recommend doing that too if you actually want a picture with your son who things he's too “cool” to hug his momma!

And, here is the “fam” the last night. My eyes are closed, and of course it is the only picture that we're all looking at the camera without an annoyed “Mom, why do we have to do this?” expression. We literally came back from dinner and I said, “We haven't taken our picture as a family yet on the beach.” So, my BFF came out in pitch dark – no lights were allowed on outside because it was sea turtle mating/hatching season – and took this pic. I can't complain, at least we're all together :-)

I had to get this picture because we were on mile 1000 (out of 1200) on the way home and the kids were obviously about to explode (and really annoying me too, by the way). So, hubby pulls out these suckers and says, “You think they would want these?” I was like, “How long have you had those?” He had bought them the NIGHT BEFORE and he just pulled them out an hour from home! Craziness, but it did quiet their little mouths the rest of the drive…hehe!

And, while we were there, I did get to exercise as I shared here. The exercise and the amazing wonder that we were blessed with made me think about God's greatness and amazing love. And, it made me think of “Footprints in the Sand” – there was nothing epipheral about it, there was sand and I saw footprints…but, here's what I thought:

  • God walks with us everywhere we go – in storms, on vacation, and at home everyday.
  • Sometimes we don't sense his presence but his arms are outstretched for us regardless.
  • He is so amazing and made everything in this universe, yet He still makes time to walk with me – I am his #1 priority (and so are you)!
  • He wants to carry and protect me when I'm in the crashing waves. I am his child and He is my Father!
  • Waves of life will knock us down and recede, but the solid rock of the Lord will never be moved – no matter how big the wave is!

And, here's my precious little Andon. He just loved the ocean and the sand. I thought this pic was perfect to share – he was amazed at seeing his footprints in the sand. One day, he'll be even more amazed to know that God has carried him through so much in his short little life.

The Lord is my solid rock and foundation that makes life worth living. I want Him to be my shadow and follow me wherever I go. I don't need to see a set of footprints following me – I know He has carried me, and will continue to carry me, as long as I walk with Him. His imprint is on my heart and can be felt everyday whether I'm walking in the sand or walking on the streets!

Footprints In The Sand

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.

Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.

When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.

He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.

He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.

This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:

“LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me.”

The LORD replied:

“My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you.”
