Soul Snack: Then Sings My Soul Saturday

I’ve read so many blogs lately about personal loss and personal challenge. Some women have shared the loss of their own children – others have lost close family members. Some are going through personal challenges with children or family members. I can empathize to a certain degree, but each person’s story is truly heart-wrenching and I can honestly say they are in my prayers each and everyday.

Again, I had another song I wanted to do today, but I believe the holy spirit guided me to choose this song. And, when you hear the song, you might be like, “Girl – that holy spirit needs to work overtime on ya.” And, that might be the case since this is a secular song with some girating hips in the actual video (which I am leaving out this week)! But, with all the people I mentioned, I felt like each one of them should know that they are Survivors thanks to God’s love, strength and grace!

So, that leads me to the song…Like I said, it’s a secular song. The song has been loaded on my ipod for a while and I decided to actually listen to the words (instead of running to the beat while I’m exercising). Yes, the whole song doesn’t apply (I haven’t sold “my millions” yet and don’t plan to either). But, while I was listening to the song, I began to sing it with ferver because I felt like I was spiting the devil – and I just love to do that!

The very first part is “Now I let ya out of my life, I’m so much better.” When they say “Ya” during the whole song, I’m thinking of this as sin and the devil’s hold on me since Jesus Christ took that sin for me and he’s livin’ in my soul!

Then, there’s “after all of the darkness and sadness soon comes happiness. If I surround myself with positive things, I’ll gain prosperity.” The Lord is that positive thing I choose to surround myself with – and when He is in your life, you will be forever prosperous! As a chrisitan, you will have darkness and sadness – it’s inevitable, but the key to surviving this is knowing that God has better, richer plans for you!

And, I love the part where it says “I’m not gonna compromise my christianity!” Praise God that there are other people who won’t compromise their christianity to achieve whatever it is they desire. I find that the more I talk to God, the more I discern his will in my life and compromising who I am or what We stand for is one of those things!

Finally, I think of Job, the trials he endured and the pain he suffered. He was frustrated and even cursed his own birth – but Job was tested because he was the best there was. Job eventually knew that God had a purpose to his suffering and pain…and his own Survival!

Sorry, but I don’t have video this week – but you can go here and play the song entirely or if you just want to read the lyrics, you can go here for that. So, spite the devil today and Praise God for being the Survivor he has blessed us to be livin’ on this Earth!

I encourage you to visit Amy’s “Then Sings My Soul Saturday” to hear others share some of their favorite songs every Saturday!

BTW – if you read “A Mom’s Thoughts” on Thursday, I did lift my hands above my head while I was running during this song. The physical act of doing that was quite challenging for me, but I was praying for some friends at the time and I wanted the Lord to hear and see my prayer the best way I could. Praise God because it helped!

Good message. I’m a survivor, too, because of the Lord. If we have Jesus and believe in His victory – we can all be survivors.

We are all survivors in this big ole world and I am so thankful for a big ole God that gets me through it! I can’t wait for the celebration one day in Heaven when God will say, “Well done.”

    Thank you for sharing!

Thanks for the SURVIVOR song Your message for this was excellent! We all need to survive beyond the limits the enemy tries to hold us down but we have the VICTORY in Christ Jesus! And like this song we do have to WORK AT IT which means BE in HIS WORD and PRAY as well as FELLOWSHIP with others to support us through the storms of life. Thanks Andrea! You did Fine in showing us that the Holy Spirit can move us even through secular songs that pump us up and spark a HOLY FIRE!!! Blessings and thanks for the snack…Peggy
