Diet & Fitness Snack: Fat Burnin’ Friday

Well, I’m really happy (and very surprised) to report my fat burnin’ results this week – I lost 2 pounds. Obviously, I’m happy about the weight loss because a 2-pound loss is hard for me each week (but within my healthy range of losing). The fact that I’m surprised is because we had a Mother’s Day feast and I ate so much junk that it was disqusting – now, I ate probably the same amount as my BFF’s but they took their portions in little bowls that was easily hidden :-) I was not trying to be shy about the fact that I wanted two pieces of strawberry pie and a piece of pig’s cake..and why not a brownie :-)

Anyhoo, that didn’t affect my weight loss for the week. But, on Monday, I came down with something that just made me feel lethargic and weak. I’m over it now, but I felt like I needed to take some time off from exercise so I only got to exercise 2 days this week. I did still do my workout on Monday and Thursday, but I didn’t have the energy like I needed to truly “feel the burn.” I really don’t anticipate a loss at all next week, but I can still work hard and hope :-) Which leads me to this…

“Go Big or Go Home!”

As quoted by one of the ladies on the show, “Desperate Housewives of New York” (crazy show I know). But, I don’t exactly mean to go home. My point in saying this is if you’re not feeling up to exercise one day, don’t go half-way or give half of an effort. As I mentioned in my snack on listening to your body, this time I listened and it told me to take the day..or two off because I wasn’t going to be able to give big and I knew I wouldn’t be happy about it. If I don’t feel like I’ve had a good workout, then I don’t feel like I’ve done it at all. If you are making the effort to get your gym clothes on and get in that frame of mind (because it takes that for me), then at least give 110%. I understand that every little bit helps, believe me, I haven’t come this far and not be helped by my 75% effort at times. But, when you get to a certain point, you have to want it bad enough to be willing to work through the pain, and sometimes working with little energy just doesn’t work (at least not for me).

There is no half-way in a commitment to life-long fitness. You truly have to give it all you got in order to see the results you want. Losing weight, or getting fit, is a lifestyle change and it needs to be a priority just as much as saving all that money on those sweet deals I snack on!! I can honestly say, this is the first time in my life that I’m making it a priority. Part of it is due to the fact that I know we will not be having anymore children so my body is now truly my own. The other part is that I will be celebrating a big birthday this year and I want to be able to say that I feel just as great – or even better – as I did when I was 19!

So, how did you do? I have a question for you too – have any of you taken pilates classes in a studio? I have those pilates DVD’s that don’t work for me and I don’t think buying my own machine would be as cost-effective or motivationally effective. I am contemplating joining a studio to see how that would help my weight loss and toning efforts. If you have any feedback, I would really appreciate it. This would be a reward for me when I lose 8 more pounds so I would join in a few more weeks. TIA!

    Way to go! That’s awesome weight loss!

    I’ve taken Pilates classes (any many others…just about anything offered at the YMCA) and love them. I was sore after the Pilates class. It’s one of my faves. My least fave is Yoga – it’s just not me.
